CATHY MAXWELL
For me, mosaic art reflects the essence of humanity - taking many small, unique pieces and bringing them together to create a larger, meaningful whole. Each fragment carries its own story, and when combined, they form something entirely new and beautiful.
I have been exploring this art form for over a decade, continuously learning and refining my techniques through classes and experimentation. One of my greatest joys in creating mosaics is the ability to repurpose and transform everyday objects into works of art. I scour thrift stores, garage sales, and unexpected places for hidden treasures — glass, jewelry, polished stones, beads, and other found objects - reimagining them within my designs.
My process blends traditional stained glass cutting with a mixed-media approach, allowing each piece to develop its own rhythm, texture, and personality. The results are playful, vibrant, and one-of-a-kind - mosaics that celebrate creativity, resourcefulness, and the beauty of transformation.
