Fiber
Susan Livingston has been a mixed-media fiber artist many years. Some days she spends dyeing beautiful fabrics...some days she spends stitching (always by hand) on these fabrics.....& other days she spends walking & collecting the found objects that are often
the inspiration for one of her mixed-media fiber collages.
Susan’s current work is rooted in nature, incorporating indigo & other natural dyes applied to vintage fabrics and shibori-resist silk scarves. Using needle and thread as her primary mark-making tools, she explores, defines, and illustrates organic forms with a quiet meditative precision.
Her recent exhibitions include Introspection/Retrospection, a solo exhibition at the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center; A Fine Hand, an invitational exhibition at the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center (2021); the Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition at the City Gallery. Charleston (2019, 2016, 2015); and ArtFields in Lake City (2020 virtual 2017, 2016).
Susan is also an exhibiting member of the South Carolina Artisans Center (Walterboro. SC). She has been selected for numerous fine art and craft shows, including the Piccolo Spoleto Juried Craft Show (2023. 2022. 2021. 2019); the Atalaya Fine Art and Craft Show in Murrells Inlet (2023, 2022, award winner; 2021); MPA Artfest in McLean.
